Mr. and Mrs. Kuroki live in Shintomi Town, Japan, and married in 1956. When Mrs. Kuroki was just 52 years old, she lost her eyesight over the space of one week because of diabetes complications. As a result, she isolated herself and became depressed. Her husband’s response? He spotted a bright pink shibazakura flower in their garden. Beautifully scented, it inspired him to find a creative and utterly romantic solution to his wife’s unhappiness.
He spent two years planting thousands of the scented flowers across their garden, creating a gloriously scented floral carpet right outside their home, just to make his wife smile. Now that’s love!
