Lightning Strikes And Trees Are Never A Good Mix
While lightning does tend to strike the highest point in an area, such as a flag pole or a very tall building, it can also gravitate towards tall trees. In a forest setting, lightning will strike trees, but a lot more than burning the ground can happen. When a lightning strike hit this tree, it started a fire deep inside of it and slowly that fire began to consume the innards of the tree.
Five days later, and the inside of the tree was still burning away. This is one way that forest fires can start, which is why fires like these have to be put out.
Have You Ever Seen Glasses With A Minus 22 Lens?
Eyesight is one of those things that most of us take for granted. Not everyone is blessed with perfect vision though, and over time most peoples' eyesight begins to change. Some people become more farsighted while others are nearsighted. Looking at the lenses on these glasses it is pretty easy to tell that this person does not have the best eyesight. A -10 lens is considered to be very strong.
Here we have glasses with a whopping -22 lens. This is for someone with severely bad eyesight, but we are happy to see that glasses exist for them.
Who's Taller, The Snake Or The Woman Holding The Snake?
Snakes are one of those love or hate animals for most people. Many snakes are incredibly poisonous or possess the ability to wrap themselves around things and squeeze until there is nothing left to squeeze. Pet snakes are pretty common, but usually, they are the small garter variety. Snakes have a very unique way of moving as well, as they tend to propel themselves in a crawling motion. It's pretty rare to see them rear up to their full height.
Somehow, this snake managed to rear up quite high, which is pretty intimidating to anyone who is afraid of these reptiles.
Even Eggs Jump For Joy When They Are Released
Everyone has cracked an egg or two into a pan in preparation for some delicious scrambled eggs or sunny-side-up ones. Most of the time you don't want the yolks to crack because then it makes it a lot harder to dip a piece of toast into. One of these yolks decided to try and make a break for it though. This yolk looks like it is ready to leap out of the pan.
Where it plans on leaping is anyone's guess, but maybe it is into a bowl of cake batter. Cakes are even more delicious than eggs.
Precision Cut Trees Makes Life Feel Like A Video Game
There are lots of different types of gardens all over the world. Some are classic Italian gardens with perfect symmetry, while others are more focused on topiaries and perfectly cut trees. The trees on this land look like they belong in a video game or the matrix. Someone has gone through and perfectly cut the tops and the fronts into a straight line. This is the kind of precision normally done with the help of lasers.
No lasers were used here though. Maybe if we lived in the "Star Wars" franchise world they would be, but this is just the work of some very dedicated gardeners.
Dried Glue Can Take On Any Shape If You Leave It
We have all seen what dried glue looks like on paper, and other bits and pieces that are glued together. Most glues dry clear, but it is pretty rare to see glue dried in specific shapes. Someone must have left the glue in this bottle for years, and meticulously removed the plastic casing to see what it looked like. The result is this perfect dried glue shaped like the bottle.
This opens all sorts of doors. Maybe dried glue art will become the next fad, and we will start seeing all sorts of little glue statues.
The Door Must Be Around The Back For This Building
Architects love to get creative with buildings, but sometimes the drawings just aren't practical and that only becomes apparent after a building is built. For this building, there must have been very limited space which is why there is basically one support wall holding up the entire building. It does create a few questions though, namely, where is the entrance to this building. Are there teeny-tiny stairs that lead up to the main apartment?
If a big gust of wind rolls through this street, the whole building looks like it could topple down. It's a wonder it is still standing.
The Mystery Of The Curved Icicles And How It Was Solved
Icicles always make buildings look like they belong in winter wonderlands. Typically, icicles are created when water trips down and then freezes in that position. What makes these icicles unique though, is the fact that they are curved. It looks like Elsa from "Frozen" came into town and decided to wield her special winter magic and these icicles are the product of that. There is a simple explanation though, which is not as exciting.
The wind must have been blowing very hard when these icicles were forming, and the direction of the curve shows where the wind was blowing from.
Tis The Season For A Fishermen Decorated Christmas Tee
As soon as the holidays roll around, it is time for shops to pull out their decorations and start personalizing their Christmas trees. Instead of going with traditional garland, lights, and some ornaments, this fish shop decided to show off its product. If you thought they were going to hang some pretty fishing lures, and maybe some fake bait, then it's time to guess again. What is the main product at this shop?
If you guessed fish, then you would be right. Don't worry though, there is no raw fish on this tree, which would make for a very stinky holiday. All the fish here was dried.
One Of These M & M's Is Not Like The Others
Quality control is one of the most important things when it comes to manufacturing sweets and chocolates. Nobody wants to eat a strangely shaped chocolate or one that has been made with salt instead of sugar. That's why there are so many different mechanisms in place to make sure everything produced adheres to these sets of controls. Something must have gone wrong at one of the factories though because this is not an M & M.
This looks like licorice all sort dressed up as an M & M. Hopefully, it still had that chocolatey flavor everyone expects of a normal M & M.
Patrick Is Possibly The Largest Wombat On The Planet
Just like people, animals come in all different shapes and sizes. Wombats are found in Australia and usually grow to about a meter in length. One of the things they are known for is their exceptionally slow metabolisms, which means they prefer to wander around slowly rather than run. These cute guys aren't like cheetahs, but when they need to, they can run up to 40 km/h. Patrick here is a pretty big wombat.
Patrick prefers to cuddle with his human friends, rather than forage around for tasty tidbits. We don't recommend trying to tame wombats though, they are still wild animals!
Mother Nature Always Retakes The Earth, Even In Concrete Jungles
The power of Mother Nature is undeniable. She has the ability to create massive storms which tear across the planet, and create life as she does it. Concrete jungles, also known as cities, always seem to lack that natural edge. Yes, they have gardens, but they don't have the forests, jungles, and savannahs that other more untouched parts of the world contain. She never stops trying to spread a bit of green though.
On this city block, she managed to get a tiny little bush to grow up from underneath the concrete. Eventually, this city will be taken back by Mother Nature.
The Roots Of Mother Nature Are Very Strong
Many cities and towns like to include green spaces for people to walk their dogs in and enjoy a nice stroll. Trees have extensive root systems though, and if cement is poured around them, those roots tend to run out of spaces to go. Mother Nature always finds a way though. Instead of keeping those roots in the ground, this tree found the cracks in cement and slowly began to inch its roots out.
It's great that this tree has been able to take back the sidewalk, but it also means that whoever has to maintain this area now has to watch where they step.
This Catch Of The Day Is A Whole Meal
Fishing is one of those activities that is nice and relaxing. You cast your line, and watch the lure bob around as you wait for something to bite. Some people like to try crabbing as well, which is even easier. All that is needed is a crab trap and some patience. After pulling out the crab trap one fine morning, this crabber or fisherman or both was greeted with a whole meal.
Instead of just one or two crabs, this person pulled out two crabs, two prawns, and two little fish. Now that is what we call a perfect catch of the day.
Just Follow The Red And White Light Lit Road Home
Watching snow fall is one of the most beautiful sights in the wintertime. Slowly, the snowflakes coat the trees, the road, houses, and everything else. In some places, like Alaska, the state sees multiple feet of snow, which creates a blanket over the landscape. In this town, they experienced heavy snowfall, and everything was covered, which included some Christmas lights which had been set out to line a path to a home.
The result is a nicely lit path, which is even more beautiful than the uncovered lights. Santa will know just where to go on Christmas Eve.
Gertrude The Goat Enjoys A Good Shopping Excursion On The Weekend
Over the years a lot of people have grown more and more comfortable dressing their pets up, sticking them in strollers and carriers, and treating them like the fur babies they are. This usually applies to dogs and cats though, not goats. Goats are considered to be small livestock and enjoy escaping from pens wherever they are kept. Clearly, this couple took the whole support animal thing to the extreme.
Gertrude the goat isn't a regular goat, she is this couple's de facto child and goes everywhere they go. The Walmart employees might have had a few things to say about this.
Some Family Washrooms Are For Kids That Are All Legs
Family washrooms are a great invention. Kids always need a bit of room when they are being potty trained, and that means a parent sometimes needs to lend a helping hand. According to this sign for a family washroom though, kids don't have bodies. All they have are a head, two arms, and abnormally long legs. Some artistic license must have been used by the designer because kids have bodies just like their parents.
If this child was seen in real life, it would look like it belongs to some kind of genetic experiment gone wrong.
Lightning Always Goes For The Tallest Point In An Area
Listening to the boom of thunder, and then seeing lightning flash across the night sky is kind of like watching magic happen in real life. While there is a scientific explanation for it, it is nice to imagine that some wizard with mighty powers is engaging in a cosmic battle. On this golf course, lightning struck the flagpole, and you can see exactly how it spread through the ground and burned it.
If this was a movie, a wizard would have unleashed his power into the ground, but this is real life. Mother Nature was just showing her power once more.
Escalator Camouflage Is Not That Hard To Come By
When you think about camouflage, you tend to think about the forest and people wandering around with bushes stuck to their heads and coats covered in green and brown swirls. Most people don't worry about camouflaging themselves in urban environments, like when they are standing on an escalator. Blending into the escalator is not a high priority for most people unless they are in some sort of performative art piece.
After staring at their feet for a few minutes, this person came to the startling realization that their shoes actually match the escalator grill. Genius!
The Magical Light Up Toilet Bowl For Late Night Adventures
House can be a bit spooky at night. The floors creak, and houses groan as they settle as soon as the sun goes down. Most people have hall lights, or night lights set up to help guide the way to the bathroom if they need to use it in the middle of the night. Some people don't bother and simply use the built-in flashlight on their smartphones. There is another option though.
You can put a light in the toilet bowl itself, and this beacon will guide anyone who needs a midnight bathroom break to the place they need to be. Looks magical, doesn't it?
The Best Omelettes Are Made Out Of Gigantic Emu Eggs
There are all sorts of birds in the world, some are small and some are big, which means eggs also come in all different shapes, sizes, and colors. To make the ultimate omelette you need to find a gigantic egg. These aren't always easy to find depending on where in the world you live. While perusing the aisles at their local grocery store this person stumbled across what looked like a dragon egg.
These vibrant eggs are emu eggs, and not something you often see in a grocery store. This must have made for one very tasty, yet yolky omelette.
Sometimes Nature Provides Gift Hints In The Most Unexpected Of Places
As soon as the holidays roll around it is time to start thinking about what gifts to give people. For kids it is pretty straightforward, they love toys, but for adults, who tend to have everything they need it is quite a bit harder. Mother Nature decided to provide a few hints this year, and all it took was a little ice sculpture to show the world what all adults love.
We are not talking about a garden shovel, even if this is what it might look like at first glance. For the adult that enjoys an alcoholic beverage, a nice bottle of wine is always welcome during the holidays.
There's Such A Thing As A Knife That's Too Sharp
The beauty of a good set of kitchen knives is that they can last for years and years. Knives dull over time and need to be sharpened on a regular basis in order to keep slicing fruits, veggies, and meat to perfection. Most people don't notice their knives wearing down from the sharpening, but it does happen incrementally over time. Just take a look at this knife here, it used to be a chef's knife.
Now, after years and years of being sharpened, it resembles the kind of knife you would use to fillet a fish.
Lego Blocks Can Be Used For Any Building Project
Lego blocks are a toy that many kids around the world grew up with. These little plastic building blocks give kids the ability to find their inner architect and start creating buildings that they see in their mind's eye. Lego blocks aren't just for kids though, they can also serve a much more practice purpose when they need to. After seeing an empty rectangle in this brick floor, someone decided to pull out their Lego blocks and get to work.
Not only is this Lego block brick totally unexpected, but it makes this floor stand out in a way it normally would not have.
Kiwi Birds Also Enjoying Eating A Few Slices Of Kiwi
Kiwi birds are found in New Zealand and are particularly special because they can't fly on top of being absolutely adorable. Most of the time they forage around and eat what they can find, but in a rare instance, someone captured them enjoying a few slices of kiwi fruit. We have to be careful to differentiate here, otherwise, it might sound like kiwis are snacking on kiwis and this is a no cannibalism zone.
Kiwi fruit is delicious, which makes it pretty unsurprising that these little kiwi birds couldn't help themselves from eating a slice or three.
Order Up, A Burger With None Of The Toppings Please
Every day there is a new fad diet that is released. Some say don't eat this or don't eat that, and most tend to frown at anything that contains gluten or dairy. In an effort to follow some unknown diet, this fast-food restaurant received a very strange order. The customer did not want anything on their burger, including the patty itself and no bun. The result is pretty strange and could have been ordered in a more logical manner.
All this person wanted, in the end, was a good old slice of American cheese, but instead of asking for that, they asked for a burger with nothing but the cheese.
Do Lizards Needs Little Hands To Help Them Feel Human?
Lizards tend to have little or big paws with claws on the end. This helps them to scrabble up walls, grab food, and generally protect themselves from predators looking for a snack. Some human must have come across this little guy and decided that he needed some prosthetic hands to help him live his best reptilian life. We're not sure who came up with the plan, but the result is pretty amazing.
Not only does this lizard look like something out of a very strange movie, but it doesn't seem to mind that it has some new hands.
What Came First, The Top Grass Or The Bottom Grass?
There are many things in life that continue to puzzle us, but this is one that is a real head scratcher. Here we have some tufts of grass sprouting out of the top of this sign pole, and on the bottom, we have a whole strip of grass. How did this grass at the top get here and start growing so well though? Was some seed deposited on top and then started growing?
If we had to guess, this is probably a few strands of very tall grass that has somehow sprouted all the way up the sign pole.
A Mutant Banana Or An Entirely Different Fruit All Together?
Over the decades, scientists have been hard at work creating genetically modified fruits and vegetables. One of the best examples of this is lemons. The outside rind used to be very knobby and bumpy, but now it is mainly a nice smooth yellow. The shape of lemons themselves hasn't changed that much though. Bananas on the other hand are relatively the same, but someone is trying to dupe us into thinking a new banana is in town.
This long yellow, almost banana-like fruit is just a mutated lemon. There probably is much lemon juice coming out of this little guy.
A Perfectly Broken Plate Does Exist And This Is It
Usually, when someone drops a plate on the floor, it smashes into a million little tiny pieces. Once it is smashed into a bunch of pieces, it is basically unrepairable, unless it falls into the category of a perfect break. This plate dropped onto the ground, and instead of smashing, it broke into two pieces. It did not break in half like you would suspect, but instead, it broke around the circular base.
This plate could probably be repaired, but it would take the Japanese art of Kintsugi to get it just right and turn it into something fabulous.
The Irony Of Cutting Yourself On Something You Need For A Cut
No fingers are safe when cardboard and paper are around. One slip of the finger and a very painful paper cut can occur. Most of the time, paper cuts don't bleed as they are very very small cuts in the skin. They do sting like nobody's business though. After cutting themselves, this person knew they needed a band-aid to stop the cut from bleeding all over their clothes and the room they were in.
Disaster struck though, and instead of grabbing a band-aid for their old cut, they ended up getting a paper cut on the band-aid box.
Bad Computers Get Time Outs On Electrical Wires Over Trains
In some places, it is fairly normal to hang shoes from electrical wires. It symbolized a variety of things, but what is not normal, is hanging a desktop computer monitor from electrical wires. We don't know what this computer ever did to anybody, but it most not have been good. Someone went to a lot of trouble to hang this monitor over the electrical wires above this train station for the world to see.
Maybe this computer had a nasty virus, and they didn't want any other computers to cross wires with it and accidentally catch it.
Candle Wax Can Reform Itself Into A New Candle
Candles are pretty incredible inventions if you really think about them. Before there was electricity and lamps, there were beeswax candles, and we continue to use candles today when the electricity goes out. After lighting a candle and forgetting about it, the candle managed to drip its wax into a perfectly formed new candle right underneath it. All this candle needs is a wick and it would be ready to use all over again.
It's always good to reuse items when you can, as it makes them sustainable and creates less waste in the long term.
A Sneaky Piece Of Bone Is Definitely Not An M&M
When you picture an M&M, you tend to think of a dark chocolate-covered circle covered in a candy coating. They're pretty delicious, and always hit the spot when you need a quick sugar fix. Most people tap a few M&Ms into their hands and eat them when they need a sugar fix. Some people just pour the bag into their mouths and mow down on them like there is no tomorrow.
Luckily for this person, they were the hand pourer type of person, otherwise, they might have bitten directly into this rather large chunk of bone.
Cafe Couches Designed With The Digital Nomad In Mind
In this day and age, everyone is connected to the internet through devices like a laptop, smartphone, watch, and anything else they can get their hands on. Not all cafes are designed with the digital nomad in mind though. Some want people to actively detox from social media, and enjoy the simple pleasure of drinking a coffee or tea without constant notifications going off at the same time. This cafe isn't for that though.
Instead of promoting digital detoxes, they installed plug-ins for every device on the market in their sofas to make it easier than ever to stay connected.
Sometimes Tangled Wires Create The Most Perfect Figure Eight Knots
Anyone with wired headphones knows just how frustrating it can be to drop a pair of headphones in a backpack and then pull out the tangled-up wires later on. Most of the time it takes at least five minutes to completely disentangle them to the point where they are ready to be plugged in again. One person though found something that basically never happens in the land of tangled headphones.
The wires of the headphones knotted themselves into a perfect figure-eight knot, which would make any sailor proud.
Foam Party At The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles's Pad
The teenage mutant ninja turtles know how to have a good time, at least when it comes to eating pizza in sewers. We know they are fictional, but we can't help but wonder, are there some mutant turtles living inside of this sewer? There is a whole lot of foam oozing out of this grate, which makes it look like someone is throwing a full-on foam party right under our feet.
Whoever is hosting this foam party clearly forgot to invite the person who took this photo, and they probably have a major case of FOMO.
The Mystery Of The Frozen And Unfrozen Water Bottles
Life is full of mysteries, and one of the greatest ones might just be these two water bottles. Overnight, the temperature dropped, and the owner of a vehicle left two identical water bottles in the car. One froze and the other did not, which is rather strange. There are a few theories around why this may have happened, which we are here to unpack. One of them is related to insulation.
If the bottles were kept in different locations, that might explain why one froze and the other didn't. Areas in a vehicle which are more insulated, such as a pocket may have helped to keep the bottle of warm enough to not freeze.
Abdomen-Less Wasps Do Apparently Exist In Nature Which Means No Stingers
Wasps aren't exactly the most beloved of creates in the animal kingdom. They possess stingers, which they can use multiple times to sting humans and animals alike. It's a pretty painful process and not one that anyone wants to experience unless they have to. However, this wasp is not like the others. This wasp does not have an abdomen which is where the stinger is located. That means it can't sting.
It's a pretty rare mutation, and definitely makes it okay for this person to have the wasp chilling out on their hand.
A Little Natural Tree Magic Is All It Took
Trees are known for their thick tree trunks, which help them to stand upright and weather any storms that pass their way. There is an art within the world of horticulture though known as tree weaving. When trees are in the sapling stage, their trunks are very pliant, which makes them easy to braid or weave together. Over time this creates a very beautiful, and symmetrical effect which is seen here.
Some serious time and effort was put into creating this beautiful braided look, and it definitely added a bit of spice to this otherwise normal potted tree.
